New WALL Single “Shoestring” Premiered by Pitchfork; Shoestring EP Drops April 2nd via Big Picnic

Stream/Post "Shoestring:"

"Like having a necessarily intimate conversation in a busy public place: there may be bigger and louder things going on elsewhere, but right now hearing what WALL has to say is the only thing that matters." -Pitchfork

"South London’s answer to St Vincent" -Q Magazine

"Cloaked in enigmatic wooziness, the female fronted trio trade in eerie, yet soul-stirring dreamscapes" -NME

Rising London-based producer/writer/vocalist WALL partnered with Pitchfork yesterday to premiere her new single “Shoestring,” which can be streamed HERE.  Big Picnic Records is incredibly excited to announce that they have signed WALL and will release a new EP titled Shoestring on April 2, 2013. Shoestring continues to demonstrate and display WALL’s production prowess and aptitude at crafting harmoniously refined songs. Her sparse and eerie dreamscape compositions perfectly compliment her soft, compelling vocals and masterful songwriting.

WALL’s minimal pop music has been causing UK tastemakers and specialist radio DJs to fawn over the intimacy of the tracks, with her 2012 EP, Magazine, receiving plays from 6Music, Radio 1 and XFM.  Having spent the better part of last year mesmerizing crowds across the UK, touring with the likes of Saint Saviour, WALL is set to continue bringing her enchanting live act to audiences in 2013. Her first live show of the year was a sold out headline show at London’s Hoxton Hall. In March, WALL will head out on a European tour in support of Local Natives and will play her first-ever shows on US soil, with appearances in New York, Los Angeles, and SXSW. The full list of tour dates is below.

Influenced by artists such as St Vincent and Patti Smith, WALL takes her lead from women with a strong sense of identity, using her unique formula of layered production as an integral part of the writing process. Favoring rudimentary recording equipment over state-of-the-art studios, she captures not only the intended notes but also encourages the ambient sound in the room. From these scratchy beginnings, WALL creates sparse soundscapes, with only muted bass lines and scattered keyboards to frame her voice. While the production creates an intriguing backdrop, it is WALL’s sense of melody and turn of phrase that takes center stage. Subtle nods to classic refrains, mingled with her own inflection, suggest a writer who draws from many different eras. The result is a sound that is both timeless yet modern.

YOU WON’T ANNOUNCES FALL TOUR DATES CHOSEN BY NPR, NEW YORK TIMES, SPIN AS CMJ HIGHLIGHT SKEPTIC GOODBYE OUT NOW

Watch the whimsical, cinematic video for “Who Knew” via SPIN or YouTube

Boston duo You Won’t (Josh Arnoudse and Raky Sastri) are thrilled to announce a run of East Coast tour dates with NYC bands Pearl And The Beard and Lucius. The tour kicks off in Philadelphia, PA at Johnny Brenda’s on November 30th and concludes December 8th at Fete Lounge in Providence, RI.   These late autumn dates cap off what has been an incredible year for the band, beginning with the release of their debut album Skeptic Goodbye in February and culminating in a series of critically acclaimed performances at CMJ in October.   The full list of tour dates is below.

During an impressive run of nine shows in five days at CMJ 2012You Won’t caught the eyes and ears of fans and media alike, quickly gaining a reputation for dynamic, energetic, and unorthodox live performances that found them leaping off the stage to serenade the audience at close range.  Armed with a wide variety of instrumentation (including harmonium, musical saw, and a set of stolen windchimes) the duo boasts an astoundingly full and nuanced sound.  SPIN tagged You Won’t as a “Must See Act at CMJ,” and The New York Times featured the band on their “Notable Acts of CMJ” playlist.  NPR’s Bob Boilen (host of All Songs Considered) found himself ”seduced by their friendly sound” and declared them one of his favorite discoveries from CMJ 2012.  Paste Magazine noted that You Won’t stood out thanks to their “enigmatic live show, their sense of humor, their ease with the crowd and their incredible songwriting.”

Released on Old Flame Records in February, You Won’t’s full-length debut, Skeptic Goodbye, has been widely praised for its distinctive brand of minimalist, eccentric folk-pop characterized by penetrating lyrics both confessional and tongue-in-cheek. NYLON adored its “retro pop sound with a folksy Leonard Cohen edge,” and SPIN declared “for the delicate folk-pop of You Won’t, we certainly will.”  I Guess I’m Floating praised Skeptic Goodbye as ”simple, clean, and damn charming,” while PopMatters called it “the perfect post-winter pop album.”
